The airport was also after the 3rd Queen Alia, who died in a flight accident. The name of the airport is Queen Alia International Airport.
Tourists loves to swim here and taking a picture of themselves reading newspaper while floating which represents Dead Sea. You are most welcome to enjoy your time here but you must always keep in mind regarding your safety bathing -
• Don’t dive or jump into the water.
• Don’t drink sea water as it might lead you to dehydration and even you might get extremely sick. If you have swallowed then ask for immediate assistance from life guard.
• Do not immerse your head, rather enter until you squat then gently lie back.
• Do not splash water on yourself and try to keep your head up while swimming.
Dead Sea contains 33% salt content making it one of the world’s saltiest water bodies and also the lowest point on earth (398 meters below sea level). No water animal or fish can sustain in such salty water. It’s salt content makes the water density extremely high and allows the object to float.
From Jordan side sunset looks very beautiful from the Dead Sea. Get some time and do experience it. It is said that visiting Jordan and not swimming at the Dead Sea makes entire trip half successful. So make sure your trip is fully successful and bring back wonderful memories back with you.
It’s said that “History always attracts”. This is very true as the Roman Amphitheatre of Amman has attracted many history lovers to Jordan followed by travellers and photographers. Romans were really fond of entertainment and their theatre still stands in the heart of the city inviting thousands of tourists to give it a visit. The Amphitheatre closes at 4 pm. If you plan for a visit then keep the time in mind and definitely be punctual. You might find bad traffic near the amphitheatre as many tourists come to see it.
The Amman Citadel is one of the main attraction in entire Jordan. The Citadel has ruins of the ancient time period which also includes the Temple of Great Hercules also the Church Byzantine which was first founded by the Greeks. Later Romans completed to some extent and final touch– the top portion was designed by Arabs. So there are 3 layers which easily depicts works from Greeks, Romans and Arabs.
If talking about streets of the main capital city, then its really very busy so make sure you keep going before your scheduled time. As it really hurts if you missed your flight due to traffic. In travel world its considered as a bad record and also signifies your time management skills. So make sure you are not on time rather before time when specially exploring in Amman.
Art and Culture
Jordan is very rich in art and culture. Jordanians loves art and are fond of colours. The famous artwork in Jordan is Sand Art and it has really impressed many tourists globally. The colours combination and the skilled hands making out beautiful drawing by various sands is really pleasing to see.
You might also seen sand art in other parts of Middle East but something is special in Jordan as this it the place where it all started and got spread over other countries in the Middle East. Only in Jordan you will find various types of sand art which will confuse you to choose the best. It is one of the preferred souvenirs for many tourists from Jordan. Seeing artists make such art in bottles is the best part. Try to see it once as you would love and appreciate the art.
Jordanians are very friendly natured and they are not afraid of talking with strangers. Rather they love to interact with tourists, spend time and know about their culture. Jordanians are true family persons especially women. They always talk in a sophisticated pitch which really sounds clear but also not loud.
Arabic is the chosen language in Jordan but as tourism plays an important role in their economy so many also know English. Locals also understand basic English which is sufficient enough to give you directions or maybe answer some of your questions.
Jordanians loves to eat green vegetables and salads. While visiting a good restaurant for some food, they will definitely offer you platters of various kinds of delicious salads. To be honest its very good for a healthy body. Most dishes consists of tomatoes and potatoes. Roasted potatoes and Cheese sticks are very famous in Jordan. People love to have it followed by tasty smoked bread which is one of their authentic preparation.
They also love to have lots of fruits. The main course mainly comprises of platters of various types of kebabs. Kebabs are very popular here and some local shops are really expertise in making and satisfying people with its delicious, tasty kebabs.
Mount Nebo is one of the holy places where every tourist visits and love to know the rich story of Prophet Moses who died here in 1407BC. The stick resembles his last memory, according to mythology when he was thirsty, he hits the ground with the stick and water came out to quench his thirst.
Many people don’t know the story of Moses, as his story was abided within the Middle East and few other countries. He was against his cruel kings and a true protestor. It’s said that Moses met God at the top of Mount Nebo where he saw the Promised Land of Israel, where he could send people where they can live freely and happily.
According to mythology, its also said that though Moses saw as per God’s order, he was not allowed to set his foot in the Promised Land. A church is also there at the top of Mount Nebo in his honour with his holy stick.
Exploring Al-Karak’s largest Crusader’s Castle will give you goosebumps. In the year 1142, the castle was build. Those brilliant minds of people who made it! There are many hidden underground floors which could be only seen from the top. Still now the perfect way haven’t been discovered yet.
The castle has many dangerous zones and many secret ways followed by many caves but no one knows where the way leads. A perfect maze for getting lost inside. Now the Castle is mainly under Jordanian Military and also an attraction for tourists. The 360º view from the castle helps to keep an eye on the cities and a huge area covering from the top of the mountain. The battle occurred here was “Seige of Al-Karak” in the year 1183.
The Lost City of Petra
The Mysterious Lost City of Petra is the main attraction of Jordan. The beautiful 1.2km Siq (canyon) will guide you to The Treasury which is also one of the deserving 7 Wonders of the World. From The Treasury, the real trekking journey begins and ends at Monastery. Your visit to this Lost City will definitely be one of your favourite memories.
